What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is the natural health system of India and uses an holistic approach to healing by balancing mind, body and spirit with diet, lifestyle, warm oil treatments, yoga, mantra and meditation.  Ayurveda uses ancient wisdom to help modern life health problems and has been successfully practiced for over 5,000 years.

It sees human disease as an imbalance of the 5 elements which are ether, air, fire, water and earth.  We each have a unique body type (prakriti) and when one or more of the elements are out of balance, we experience dis’ease.

Ayurveda teaches it starts with digestion.  When the elements are imbalanced in the digestive tract, toxins are caused through incorrect digestion, absorption and elimination of food. These toxins  accumulate in the the bodily tissues and channels bringing health problems. The digestive imbalance also affects the mind and subtle energies, so healing must take place on three levels, mind, body, spirit.

We do this by attending to digestion with dietary advice for your unique body type, giving medicinal herbs and food suggestions as well as helping you to change some lifestyle habits that are not in harmony with your body type.  There’s also healing therapies and home healing suggestions too.
